Re(1): How difficult is it?

Dear Patrick,

Thanks for your nice comments about the Malet Street Gazette - it's great see that potential students (as with current ones) find great value here.

There is no way one can predict or completely explain the "difficulty" of the UOL LL.B degree program; however, having been both a full time student with the University of London in the late 70 and early 80's at LSE, and also a graduate of the University of London's External Programme in laws, I can tell you this - you will be challenged.

I cannot make any comparisons with the CPA exam since I have no experience on that course or accounting exam.

The University of London External Programme does not spoon feed it's students. What I mean by this is that other British University Law degree programs (no I will not mention them by name since they are not worthy of any mention in my book) actually tell you what is going to be on the exam. London will not tell you what is specially going to be covered. Passing students is not the goal, but ensuring that a students can answer questions to an acceptable standard under exam conditions is one goal. The UOL London LL.B. course is of equal standard and quality as with full time students. The UOL London LL.B ensures both the range and depth of your studies is great enough to not only handle the UOL exams, but to also learn the law. Don't be fooled by other British University's who offer just an LL.B. - look at where their graduates go, look at how many are called to the bar in the UK, you soon realize why many of them come to the US because they could not gain a place at a UK law firm. Where you get your degree matters.

Unlike other British Universities, the University of London External Programme in laws is designed by the best law departments in the UK. A recent survey conducted by the London Times in 2002 clearly shows both The London School of Economics and University College in the top three law departments in the UK. This is important because the UOL External Programme in Laws is designed, and graded by professors from these (and other UOL Colleges) colleges. There are some 70 plus University degree programs in the UK! The UOL External Programme is the Best - simply the best in the UK.

But you can easily read the many posts here and judge for yourself.

Preparing for the UOL degree in laws under the External Programme will be hard because you will adjusting to the British legal system and secondly, you will be isolated from classes - but you should also now that since 1858 students from around the world have overcome these challenges and earned their LL.B - today there are over 8,000 registered students in the UOL LL.B. program - that speaks volumes.

Good luck with your plans to enroll with the UOL!

Sincerely yours,
George Pappas
