Examination tips

Posted on February 4, 2002 at 07:50:12 AM by George Pappas

Dear Shawn,

Take a look at the Barrister Desk in this web site where Phillip Taylor has already answered that kind of question on exam tips.

As for how much time to allocate...every person is different, so there is no perfect answer - it really depends upon your schedule, and your ability to organize material.

As for citing cases, as long you cite the leading cases for a specific rule of law, move on to the fact pattern. Your ability to apply the rule of law to the facts is key. Don't get bogged down citing cases; however, in the London exam you dam well better know the name of the cases, otherwise your best possible grade is "pass" - no Honours. You can state the right issue, the right rule of law, and apply them to the fact and produce a great conclusion, but if you don't argue from named cases, you score drops like a lead brick.

Unlike US law schools, the London exam forces you to know the leading cases by name and ratio.

Keep pushing.
